Back story

First of all, in the early 1960s, the store was a pawn broker and costume jewellery shop visited routinely by Roger Kelso in his role as a police detective. Roger and his wife, Margaret, bought the business in 1967 and Roger began learning and training in fine jewellery to transform the store.

In 2017, Westende Jewellers celebrated 50 years trading and is still a family owned and run business renowned for its antique, estate and fine jewellery, including diamond jewellery.This anniversary is testament to Westende’s devotion to their customers and high standards in quality and service.

Today

The store has moved several times including in response to an earthquake in 2010. The current showroom has been well received by existing and new customers as Sydenham is now a thriving and bustling area with great parking.

Today the store is in the very capable hands of his son Andrew, who spent many years working alongside his father

The Westende team is a collaboration of family and talented people with a fantastic combined skillset. Everyone has a complete fascination with jewellery, old and new.

Westende Jewellers will create custom made pieces as well as transform old/little worn items into beautiful new pieces that are so special to their customers. They can also breathe new life into their customers’ own vintage pieces; a great aunt’s necklace, diamonds from mother’s and grandmother’s rings, a piece to hand down. Their jewellers are skilled in turning back the time on these precious heirlooms by repairing or remaking with original components.

Sometimes a complete change of style is wanted, or perhaps something that has been seen on a celebrity, or on the internet. Westende Jewellers guides their customers through the remodelling/custom processes to get that perfect piece.
